Year Walk

By Simogo AB (Simogo Handelsbolag)

In the old days man tried to catch a glimpse of the future in the strangest of ways.

Experience the ancient Swedish phenomena of year walking through a different kind of first person adventure that blurs the line between two and three dimensions as well as reality and the supernatural.

Venture out into the dark woods where strange creatures roam, on a vision quest set in 19th century Sweden. Solve cryptic puzzles, touch and listen in your search to foresee the future and finally discover if your loved one will love you back.

Mysteries and clues await everywhere in Year Walk, but to fully understand the events that took place on that cold New Year's Eve, you will have to delve deeper than the adventure and lose yourself between fact and fiction.

For the complete Year Walk experience, or if you're curious about the folk lore on which Year Walk is based, we recommend downloading Year Walk Companion, available for free on the App Store.

"An iOS game like nothing else you’ve seen on the format to date.
This is a brave and truly original work"
Edge - 9/10

"Elegant and artful, Year Walk is an unmissable piece of work.
You can close the app and put down the phone, but the forest may spread beyond its glassy confines, its spindly, silver-skinned trees taking root in your own home, your own dreams."
Eurogamer - 9/10

"A game this distinctive, this different, this thrillingly new is the best possible demonstration of the format’s versatility; indeed, of the narrative power of the interactive medium. Simogo has made something very special here."
The Telegraph - 5/5

"It's a gripping, somber, atmospheric, and elegantly-designed game, and everyone should play it.
I've never played anything quite like it."
Touch Arcade 5/5

"An incredible showcase for the potential of tablet games and will undoubtedly become influential over the next few years."
CVG - 9/10

"Simogo has packed Year Walk with a hefty share of spine-tingling jump scares, but it’s these external trappings that cause the game’s lore to get under your skin and stick with you long after your phone or tablet has been turned off."
Gamezebo - 4,5/5

"Year Walk is smart, thrilling, and absolutely stunningly crafted. It'll throw you for a loop, leaving you transfixed to the screen until you shake out all of its dark secrets."
Mac|Life - 5/5

"As with any good page-turner, you won't want to put this game down until you get to the end. It's quite a journey, too. Year Walk is a beguiling adventure, and a truly memorable experience."
Pocketgamer - 8/10

Comments and Ratings for Year Walk

Viisually great but rather easy, so very quick to complete (1.1)

I loved the look and feel of this game but completed it wry quickly - maybe about an hour and a half max... a shame as it was a very attractive game and unusual in design ... would like longer & more challenge

Not worth the money at all (1.1)

Took me less than 2 hours to complete. Really boring, tedious, predictable and quite honestly weird. If you are a hippy goth then go for it - all other personalities avoid. Not worth the money.

Amazing (1.1)

Was hooked from start to finish, really enjoyed playing this. I only wish I could find more games similar to this.

Really don't know what the fuss is about. (1.1)

Ok, firstly this game does have some really beautiful scenes and a fairly unique story. BUT it seems to run solely on the theory that if they give the player as little instruction and direction as possible, the player will spend hours wandering aimlessly trying to figure out what's happening and thus detract from how little content is actually in the game by making it seem longer. Seriously, most of the game is boring with a few beautifully drawn scenes and you can complete the whole thing in 30 minutes tops once you know what you're doing. Oh and you have to download the companion app to get the full story of the game. It's really not worth the money at all. If you're looking for a beautifully designed horror puzzle game, may I suggest 'Tormentum'.

More than a great game - a great story (1.1)

At first I thought it was all a bit simple, but before too long it's obvious how much craft and care has gone into this game - and how much depth it has beneath the surface. It's an experience that will certainly stay with me for a while - and that ending. Blimey.

HEY!!! (1.1)

FiI got a bill for no reason and then it lags! 👎🏻

Don't waste your money on this (1.1)

The game is very unintuitive and obscure. I found it impossible to attempt without a walkthrough. Even when the walkthrough helped me to start, it was dull and uninvolving and I soon gave up. The graphics show as a wide slot on the ipad, and are black and white.

Overrated (1.1)
15/03/2016 06:12:00 2/5 By Fennburto
I do not see what all the hoopla is surrounding this game. I am a big fan of adventure games and was very excited to get this one having read all the reviews. There is nothing haunting about it at all. It is basically just wandering through the snowy landscape, which is always the same, occasionally encountering some puzzle. People are throwing around words such as stunning, amazing, captivating and beautiful to describe the game. It is none of those things. Graphically it is very basic and all pretty much the same. On top of that, nothing actually happens. It's just an over rated art piece that people will coo over because they think it's clever to and because it looks different to other games. Having a different visual appearance does not make a good game.

Atmospheric but too short (1.1)
13/01/2016 23:59:00 3/5 By GeeZeeEnn
Unusual graphics, very atmospheric, but not enough gameplay. By the time you get the lie of the land it ends, and the companion, whilst a novel embellishment adds little to the game, just adds to the world of the setting.

Good. Not amazing. Ridiculously short. (1.1)

This is a simple review for a simple game. Did I enjoy playing it ? Yes. Does it play well on iOS ? Yes. It's original. It both looks and sounds good. So why only one Star? Mainly Longevity. But also Expectation let me down. This game is way, way too short. And notice my use of the word Good. Put this game next to some other puzzlers, ie The Room, Machinarium and Limbo, and this would mist certainly be the baby of the family. So, I will end how I started. This is a SIMPLE reviews, for a GOOD, SIMPLE, game
