Comments and Ratings for Civilization V: Campaign Edition

By far the most addictive game I ever played. The only problem is that it will ruin your life. I started playing in the afternoon and was still playing at 6am the next day. Use with caution.

Beautiful (1.3.9)

Love the game, it’s very addictive and challenging. It does make my Macbook Pro mid 2012 run very hot but I haven't experienced any major lagging issues like some people here. Even late game on the island setting. But then I do have the 8GB RAM upgrade so that might be why. 4 stars becuase sometimes the game won’t let you do something and gives no explaination as to why. Like rebasing a plane works sometimes and not others. But otherwise the game is fantastic and looks great, especially for a laptop game.

Much better on a fast Mac (1.3.9)

I first got this and played it on a Mac Mini (2012) which is the cheapest of all desktop Macs. It was very slow to load the game and seemed to get worse as time went on, taking around 5 minutes on the “Loading” screen alone. As others have complained. it was often laggy during the game as well. I bought a new top-of-the-range iMac a few months ago and it loads almost instantly. It also looks great on my 27” 5K Retina display!

Fine (1.3.9)

Fine on a 2015 mac book pro - bit blowy but doesn’t get too hot

Excellent game... (1.3.9)

really good up up to 8 or more civs.the late game is really glichy and lags alot.It also take a long time to load. UPDATE IDEAS mods you can download mods for free out of a wide selection of themes and categories bug fixes OVER ALL it is the best strategy game not including xcom and civbe. it is worth getting and it looks amazing we are very lucky to have this game on the apple mac

Late game (1.3.9)
10/02/2016 09:55:00 2/5 By Vagosailer
I agree with Guy. I installed this game in january on my new I mac 5k bought in December. I bought game from App store. I also own it on Steam. When you get to the latter part of game it LAGS big time then eventually crashes when you try to load a saved game. I have tried reinstalling game as requested but this makes no difference. Get towards the end of game and it becomes unplayable. Not good enough as I have paid for this game three times, on steam, mac app store and I had it on my old PC with disc. Come on. SORT THIS OUT OR GIVE US OUR MONEY BACK.

Nice, but get laggy in late game (1.3.9)

On a 2013 iMac, the game gets increasingly laggy the more cities you own. By the late game, even founding a new city will take up to a minute to process! And barbarians processing also takes over a minute, per turn! If they could fix the lag, it would be a 5 star game, but until then it's practically unplayable in late game. Recent updates crash quite regularly, make sure you manually save game every few turns. Suprising considering how long the game has been availble for that such bugs are still present. Now, on to the good points… Graphics are much better than previous versions, and there's lots more to see and do. The old transport boats are gone (although there are still aircraft carriers), instead you reserach tech that allows any unit to cross water. I thought I'd miss transports, but this new method is much more intuitive. Unit management is nicely polished, with well implemented features for upgrading, repairing and attacking, etc. City screens are generally easy to use, although a bit clunky in places. Overall, a very good edition of Civ… if they would just fix that lag issue in late game!!

great gameplay but occasional crashes - update (0)

my favourite game but sometimes crashes on macbook pro retina, which is disappointing really… that said, its the best strategy game i have played, and i have been doing so for nearly 30 years (gulp!) ok, so, yes, it runs real hot, if you want to stop this, go into ‘strategic view’, this cools things down a lot. not had any more crashes recently (although i am constantly quick saving!) this game is fantastic, really forces strategic thinking once you start to get into it deeply,,I now have all the IAP’s, well worth it, adds even more depth and complexity

Fun But Runs HOT HOT HOT (1.3.9)
27/07/2015 01:51:00 3/5 By Ashbarr
This is a fun game.. and im not wanting to take anything away from it.. graphics and smoothness of gameplay brillaint. However… i’ve been running this on a MacBook Pro Retina Mid 2014 (Top Spec | Model:A1398) and I’ve been having some serious temperate issues. I downloaded ‘Temperate Gauge’ (£3.99 | Mac App Store) just to monitor some of the fan speeds and CPU/GPU and i found that it was running hotter than ive ever seen… one or two of the CPU reaching 100C/210F+ and fans constantly running at 5000+ speeds. I don’t know whether this is just a problem for laptops but ive never seen this issue and i primarily use my mac for graphic design / web building / video editing / audio editing. i’ve played other games on this mac and again never had these stats. So just a heads up before purchasing. This will have you MBP/R Running Hot, Really Hot. P.s fiddled with the game settings. No Improvements
