Comments and Ratings for djay Pro

Surprisingly poor video playback (1.4.2)
03/01/2017 03:13:00 1/5 By Rob Snowden
I have this app on my iPad and it works really well but I wanted to go further and have it on my Mac. All seems well and it does work nicley for audio but oh dear the quality of the video output is appalling. I can play 720p videos directly from iTunes (and several other DJ/VJ apps - even free ones) with superb quality crisp and clear on a 50” LED TV but with DJ Pro every video is pixellated or slow to load or even static and non playing. I am using top spec mac so it is not a hardware issue. It is so bad I am wondering whether to ask for a refund but for now I think I will ‘file’ this app away and hope that the developers listen to their customers (I am certainly not the first to complain about this) and fix this issue. For now audio = great, video = absolutely useless!

Buggy to the point of being useless for club DJing (1.3.1)
02/10/2016 03:32:00 1/5 By Kaid86
I have been using this app for many years over a couple of Mac’s and still there are points where the loaded track will stop mid-song, spin quickly backwards then stutter and crash, without me touching anything. However, I am familiar with the interface, so keep going back in the hope that it will eventually be fixed, but the problem still persists. Tonight it happened again, mid-set in a club, on a brand new MacBook with a fresh install, for the last time - will never use again and stick to Traktor from now on! AVOID FOR PRO USE.

Good update, but... (1.3.1)
13/09/2016 11:24:00 4/5 By ga_musicman
The addition of the ability to use Spotify as a resource for songs is brilliant. I found that very helpful, especially when DJing a theme night and I might not have certain songs. It is much more convient to search Spotify than to open up the iTunes store or elsewhere to purchase a song whilst DJing. The only disappointment I have found is that the ability to have a copy of your set list in PDF form has been taken away. Sometimes I like to review my past set lists, and once in awhile I get a request from someone for a list. This feature used to be in the other versions. Why was it taken out of DJ Pro? Please bring that feature back. Otherwise this is a great programe for beginners or the more advanced DJ.

Not perfect, but the ability to play from Spotify makes it worthwile (1.3.1)
03/08/2016 23:15:00 4/5 By tduk
So to start with, you can DJ tracks from Spotify. That feature alone makes this app worth four stars - I’m not aware of any other DJ software that allows you to do this, and for the casual DJ who no longer buys many tracks but fancies the odd mix, this is a killer feature. Tracks from Spotify play exactly like those from your local hard drive, and so this software brings a whole new angle of value to your Spotify subscription. As for the software itself, it’s good. Compared to Traktor, there are a lot of features missing, but the standard stuff works well - the beat detection is generally accurate, the EQ sounds quite good, and the MIDI mapping is fairly straightforward. A few downsides: - It can’t read Spotify playlist folders - instead, it just shows all your playlists in a list, from top to bottom as if the folders were flattened out. If you organise your music obsessively into folders like me, this is a real shame. I’ve worked around it by creating playlists at the top of my Spotify named e.g. “DJ Techno”, but this still leaves a lot of playlists which I’ve sorted into genre folders which are now just a name in a huge list. It would make a huge difference if it was possible to browse folders, but you can work around it by keeping Spotify open to browse your playlists and then find the track in Djay. - The filter has too much resonance, and you can’t control it. For certain genres of music, you might want a resonant filter which has a really “sweepy” sound to it, but for smooth mixing in genres such as techno, the resonance makes the filter sound too obvious and cheesy. However, the EQs are fairly good, so it’s not the end of the world. - The effects aren’t great, and offer too little control - only one wet/dry knob and one “FX” knob, which means there’s no independent control of feedback and rate for the echo, for example. Overall, I wouldn’t use it if I was DJing professionally, but as someone who has the odd mix now and then and hasn’t bought any new tunes for quite a while, Djay is much more fun to play with than Traktor. For the price, you can’t really argue.

Great Update (1.3.1)
01/05/2016 12:16:00 5/5 By RootedGatsup
I have been using djay since it’s first release and converting from vinyl and have always like the interface and controls. This update changes the overall look and feel somewhat, but it doesn’t take long to familiarise yourself with it. The colour coding and zoom functions on the waveform are now really useful tools and the BPM options on each deck are now much more extensive and powerful. The vinyl view, although less pretty than the old 'deck style’ view, is actually now worth using. However the biggest improvement seems to be the beatmatching and grid system itself which, let’s face is a huge reason to use digital format, now seems very accurate. In previous versions, the odd song would be incorrectly synced or the BPM wrong, this made even manual beatmatching difficult on these songs (Important not to lose that skill!) These songs now are matched properly and the algorthym seems to be able to work out bouncy or changeable beats which makes quick mixes easier and makes using djay even more fun.

Not reliable at all (1.2.1)
11/04/2016 13:38:00 1/5 By SoCoolSoPoise
I bought this application as soon as it came out, since I’d been really impressed by djay 2 on iOS. Unfortunately, djay Pro isn’t as reliable. Every new update seems to fix a few bugs and introduce a few new bugs. In addition, some bugs have gone unfixed for over a year. Here are the two worst bugs in djay Pro: The audio seems to suffer from occasional stuttering when using any USB audio interface. I’ve tested it on a Reloop Beatpad, an Allen & Heath X:one K2, and a Traktor Kontrol Z1. Sometimes the audio will just stutter, then cut out completely for a few seconds. I’ve had it happen to me two or three times during a five-hour set. It’s incredibly embarrassing when all the customers and staff in a bar turn and look at you, because the music has cut out. All you can do is stare at your laptop helplessly until the audio comes back a few seconds later. This seems to happen randomly, and it isn’t related to the file that’s playing at the time. And I’m not doing something silly like loading tracks from a USB stick, network share or Spotify. These are tracks from the SSD built into my MacBook Pro. There’s also an issue that causes a track’s audio to go completely out-of-sync with the visual waveform, beat grid, cue points and loops. Load a track and press Play, you’ll hear the audio is a few seconds behind the waveform. Jump to a cue point, and the waveform will jump to the right place, but the audio will be a few seconds behind. Press the Sync button, and djay Pro will sync the beat grids and the waveforms, but the audio will be completely off. This bug happens a lot, and it meant I had to mix everything manually. Again, this seems to happen randomly. Sometimes, a track will be fine. Other times, the audio is out of sync. Because of these persistent problems, I’ve come to the conclusion that I just can’t rely on djay Pro, and I can’t trust it to do what it’s supposed to do. I think a year is plenty of time for the developers to fix bugs and reliability problems like this, but they have utterly failed to do so. I completely abandoned djay Pro 6 months ago and moved to Traktor Pro. It was one of the best decisions I ever made.

SYNC (1.2.1)
23/02/2016 15:38:00 2/5 By Robert Holmes
i used to use virtual dj but i like to have my spotify avalible to use and the fact this company does come up with some really good ideas. when mixing and syncing a track it doesnt actualy sync properly. i’ve seen other reviews before about this problem and its still continuing. quite dissapointed!

good but needs adjustments (1.2.1)
03/01/2016 18:02:00 3/5 By Ryan heath
I like most of the feature integrated into this software but i would like to manually edit the tempos of songs i use the tap function but it is not the easiest to use. i am quite regeting spending £40 now.

CRAP (1.2.1)

Keeps breakig dow

Awesome software. Endless hours of fun (1.2)
29/08/2015 00:44:00 4/5 By bigredal1
I had the Djay apps for Iphone and Ipad and thought they were great. Then started playing round with the Trial version of the Pro version on my mac. It just works brilliantly. No fuss, no loads. Real simple to use, intuitive with loads of feature depth just waiting to be discovered. The Spotify integration is what really puts the cherry on the top. Play anything, beat match it, tone match, brilliant loop, fx, syncing functions, its got it all. It’s JUST SO MUCH FUN! In fact I’d go as far as to say if you love your music its the most fun you can have with your clothes on... Just start it playing on your speakers or headphones and be preapared to lose a few hours. I am a big vinyl man and Dj of 20 years. And this just does all the hard the things you try to do at a touch of a button. Cheating? Yes. But who cares when its this much fun. I’ve got loads of playlists set up on Spotify so that provides me with the content, but it even provides a brilliant tune matching service so you don’t even need to worry. My only minor frustration is that you can’t record mixes from Spotify, (licensing issues I guess), which is a shame as the mixes just have to last for the moment. Would I play out with it? Probably not, and probably not without an external hardware trigger. But for home use, and planning dj sets its absolutley brilliant.

Since update the beat grid is out!!!! (1.1.3)
12/08/2015 08:10:00 2/5 By Neba12
I already own the iPhone version and I was quite impressed with how good the music is synced with no beat clashes. The only thing is that I could not cue the music because I have no Cue Splitter cable. When I saw this on the store with the new vertical wave form I just had to buy it. It works very well with my Hercules RMX controller and the mapping of the buttons is quite straight forward. I love the way it is organized in a similar way to iTunes so it makes it easy to find my music. What I like the most is the syncing. Some people say it is cheating because the work is already done for you but I spent so many years mixing vinyl and it is good to be able to concentrate on other areas of the mix, like looping, the effects, dancing. I read one review on here that said the syncing is out but if it is you can easily reset the grid and you can even reset it while the song is playing. For example one song I have, the beats start out correctly but half way through it goes accapella and when the beat kicks in the sync is out (no fault of Djay Pro) but all I have to do is reset the grid and it corrects it without affecting the audio. Another feature is the Spotify option. I don’t use Spotify but I can see this as another fantastic plus. I am so impressed with this and my opinion is that it is more reliable than Virtual DJ which I have used for many years. It may not have all the features as VDJ but the syncing is great and the simplicity wants me coming back for more. Now I can get to mixing and recording some Soulful House sets. Thank you algoriddim! UPDATE!!!! I originally gave this 5 stars but since the update the beat grid does not line up anymore and it is making it more difficult to mix. Please please fix this soon as I have a set to play in 4 days time. :/

Dissapointing Update (1.1.3)
08/08/2015 14:24:00 2/5 By jackbates96
It is a shame that the beat grids are buggy now, as they weren’t when this app came out, and it is a shame because this would be a 5 star piece of fun well worth the money but if you can’t match beats then it’s a bit of a waste of money for us, please fix this :)

Bug introduced with version 1.1.3 (1.1.3)
25/07/2015 16:52:00 3/5 By Julian Gallagher
This is a 5 star app, and one i love and use everyday, some of the best user interface design around and a great mixing application. I was dissapointed today to see that the grid view is buggy. The set grid feature doesn’t work anymore, you cannot align the main beat lines using the set grid button, it just wont align. Also the waves appear to slide apart slightly as they scroll up the screen, (although the sound appears to be unaffected). Please fix this bug, the set grid feature is crucial. Thanks

1st Outing of Software - Awesome (1.1.3)
19/07/2015 12:43:00 5/5 By Stancs
I have read the reviews and previously used the IOS version, which prompted the purchase. Using Traktor for many years with my macbook pro, I never thought that I would change, but I now have two options for software. My first party with Djay pro was awesome, all my spotify playlists were there and I had access to some of the most obscure music. This software is perfect for a mobile DJ party and works superbly with my new DDJ-SB. The controller is for Serato and I have mapped it for tractor, but its plug an play with Djay. Sound quality was good, I would recomend this software to anyone, the sample deck was good fun too. It wont replace Traktor for use with my CDJs, beat grids and the advanced features are a must. I look forward to seeing how this software develops.

learn how to DJ through this app (1.1.3)
07/07/2015 04:15:00 5/5 By Dj “the maestro” Benj
Easy to use, I didnt know how to dj before using this application now I have decks and can mix tunes together and do remixes (without out mix) shortcuts are easy with or without dj decks, the main reason why I got decks was because of difficulty when scratching decks on the macbook and because it looks more professional otherwise the application is straight forward.

Useless for Spotify premium users (1.1.2)
30/06/2015 17:09:00 1/5 By Aidan+52
I have just bought this app and it seems a colossal waste of money. It won’t load my spotify tracks quick enough and they keep skipping, even though the tracks are available offline. It is too reliant on a good internet connection and this renders it totally unusable for the show I had purchased it for. Some tracks won’t even load at all!!

Good App (1.1.2)
11/06/2015 14:00:00 4/5 By NickPeachey
I’d like to see a few improvements; A clock displayed on the top bar would be usefull. It always looks bad when a DJ is constantly checking the time. I’d have liked all of my cue points to be imported from the original DJay app. The function buttons… please can these either be used, or switched of? I accidently pressed F10 instead of 0 the other night and all the music was muted… not good.

Man from Kent (1.1.1)
13/05/2015 10:29:00 1/5 By Englishman in Deal, Kent
I can’t even get off the ground as it crashes. When I first bought it in December 2014 it worked - Now with the upgrades and fixed it - I just get the decks and a spinning wheel and then a report a problem notice. I would like to say great things about it but at the moment it was just a complete waste of my money… and the work I had done before the upgrade…. get a grip!

Another update and still broken Sync (1.1.1)
02/05/2015 18:44:00 1/5 By Steve_Music
Guys, please fix the Sync feature. Standard 4/4 tracks are syncing off beat. For example the kick from one deck will sync with the snare from another deck. This is just wrong and broken.

Love DJ Pro but don’t upgrade if your on maverick (1.1)
27/04/2015 23:22:00 1/5 By kekmo
DJ Pro is great but if your in maverick don’t upgrade if you do you can’t see your itunes music in dj Please please please fix this

Great for my podcast (1.1)
25/04/2015 17:06:00 4/5 By pepsi>coke
Love the simplicity with the application. The update fix’s loads of bugs and tweaks making the overall application that little bit easier to navigate while doing my sets for the Chillsky Chillout Music Podcast. Well worth the money and great to flick between the mac application and the iphone version. Mushc fun to be had. Shame you cant record spotify sets but great to have it integrated. Additional music source is a good addition. - Chillsky

Paid and Happy :-) (1.0.1)
14/02/2015 18:48:00 5/5 By ben_all_mighty
Well I like most people was excited by the new of the Djay Pro but was dissapointed to see another price to pay. Well worth the money!!! I mainly play house gigs, event and occational Clubs, and this app has way more power then I need. Most of my music is on my Mac in my iTunes librare and I havn’t found an afforable application that intergrates with iTunes so well as Djay. Having all the music of Spotify at your finertips is amazing, with only a few days of playing around I am loving the intergrations. I don’t really use AUTO sthings when it comes to playing music but Auto Mix Radio with Spotify is great for short breaks but can be hit and miss. I don’t like using Spotify as I refuse to pay for a Pro account but now lisening through Djay Pro there are no adverts, makes lisnening to music and making playlist easy then ever. I have a 6 year old Mac Book Pro with 2.5ghz Dul coure prosessor, 4 Gb Ram and 1TB Hardrve and program works great, did a 5 hour set mixing between my music and Spotify with no problems. You can see alot of work has gone into this application and well done everyone at Algoriddim for this new application.

Automix (1.0.1)
13/02/2015 13:36:00 3/5 By timginblack
Great product but just purchased the new DJay Pro only to find the automix doesnt work

good but one problem (1.0)
25/01/2015 21:30:00 3/5 By S2 - New D
this app is good. does the job but there is a fault. seems to get stuck and just scrolls up on the music selction. have to restart the app to get it normal again.. (and no there is no issue with my up arrow button) wouldn’t be too professional in the middle of a club or gig to stop and restart half way through my set!! Fix this please on the next update!!!

can’t connect to spotify (1.0)
21/01/2015 02:39:00 1/5 By DeejayBambs
have i wasted my money? I’ve tried every way possible to connect to spotify and no luck. any solutions?

Used this and music skipped (1.0)
08/01/2015 20:10:00 3/5 By Glennyboi1
So i was gigging on NYE in a club and using an external hard drive to play music. The app would randomly skip the music then speed up. really embarrasing. IM using a 2014 MacBook Air so shouldnt really be an issue. Also the music suggestion on Spotify is great but expanding the choices to more than 20 songs would be great.

I cannot hold a certain object for too long (1.0)
30/12/2014 13:15:00 4/5 By Yosemite glitch
None the lesss the app is perfect

Love it! (1.0)
28/12/2014 22:51:00 5/5 By Matt2610
I had the previous version of Djay for Mac and I loved that one. I then got Djay 2 on iPad and the spotify integration and IAPs were awesome. So glad this came to Mac and it is a well deserved and needed update to an already great application. Well done Algoriddim

amazing, spotify function is revolutionary (1.0)
26/12/2014 21:49:00 5/5 By dmclondon11
This is an amazing app and spotify helps so much. Only other software that can beat djay pro is Traktor. Looking forward to new updates.

Seems to do everything but one flaw (1.0)
23/12/2014 09:46:00 4/5 By Wiggys Rock Show
Having never really used any DJ software before, this at first seems like a great app - the Spotify compatibility being a major plus, EXCEPT you have to have a connection and cannot use your Spotify offline playlists. My work involves live gigs and then playing music afterwards, which means that all my venues are different and probably only about 40% have a decent internet connection if any at all - and that includes tethering to my phone. So for the remaining 60% I’ll have to continue to run the spotify app from an iPad, which is not great. Otherwise I can’t see any features which this app is missing.
