Comments and Ratings for GarageBand

doesnt even open the app
removed instruments (10.1.3)
2/5 By Widjii
they even removed violins, a lot, a lot, a lot of instruments have dissapeared int the latest version, i do not suggest updating
Great once you get into it. (10.1.3)
4/5 By GibbsyG
Have been playing around with it for some time now, exploring what it can actually do. Pretty amazing really for the money.
Have recorded some great sounding tracks with it.
Love the automation edit facility.
Cons, would love to see ‘Smart instruments’ as on the iPad version.
wish there were some simpler drummers for i.e. folk/country type music. Scrolling down the almost endless over the top drum loops reveals nothing suitable. Oh for some simple classic beats!
also wish there was an easier way to adjust echo timings.
A Poor Downgrade! Great for Kids!?!?!?!?!?!?!?! (10.1.2)
1/5 By jakeyboy75
Absolutely gutted I bought this! This is a massive downgrade from the previous versions of GarageBand. This is now a toy version that is a child-friendly pointless piece of software. Where have the midi controls gone - you give only a couple of dials on the Synths and no external midi control over them - absolutely useless! This is just a toy now for kids to play with. Damn Apple once again! Plenty of crashes and freezes up regularly. Lots of faults with copy and pasting and the looping tool. Timing changes etc. etc. Can’t even finish the first track I made as the timing in the various instrument recording go out or double up if I dare to move anything. Absolute poorly though out RUBBISH!
wheres all sound purchase??? (10.1.2)
3/5 By Zedamundo
there are hardly any instruments compared to the full version, so wheres the in app purchase for everything???
Almost faultless (10.1.2)
4/5 By NickHillUK
I purchased my first copy of garageband on the ipad when it was first released, and was amazed at the high quality results I could achieve with such a simple setup. Add a usb/midi keyboard and adapter and things got even better, then an irig adapter for my guitars, awesome. So, when I finally tooke the plunge and ditched my windows surface pro for my first ever mac (macbook air 11) I was only hoping that the experience on the mac would be comparable. I was stunned. Garageband on the mac keeps all the user fiendlyness and ease of use of the ipad, and then adds a whole load more content, effects, features and flexibility that I do not believe (as an enthusiast) I will ever need anything more. My only wish would be if they could provide mapping for controller knobs, dials, sliders, transport controls etc to the automation controls then it would be 5 stars all the way. To answer the critics re stability, I have had no crashes, no midi resets, no issues with downloads or updates. It seems people are all too quick to blame software for the failings in their own equipment...
Not Working!! (10.1.2)
3/5 By Charlie Smithy
Ever since i have downloaded the latest update, i can no longer use the monitor setting, and the program is just not recroding. I will press record, the marker willstart moving, but nothing will record. What can i do about it?
I am still using version 2012 as anything after that is user unfriendly (10.1.1)
1/5 By Paotka
I do sing, and sometimes I am using loops to play or instruments to do some backing tracks..
Installed new version in 2014 and I have removed it straight away.
Old garageband was user friendly, uncomplicated tool for everyone!!!
In new garagaband the layout is very user unfriendly..
I am unable to get the full lubrary on my old one, but nevermind.. I am not going to swap it for this new crap.
too many bugs or i dont get it (10.1.1)
1/5 By GeeMuir
ive been trying to use this app for the past ocuple of hours and so far ive only been able to get one little piano bit. I’ve had so many problems in such a short time. ive havent been able to simply trim a clip to the part that i want, i havent been able to pause a clip and play a clip with the audio carrying on, each time im having to restart the entire clip.when ive tried to use a new instrument it hasnt given me a simple way of using the instrument. the simple ipad app is easier, i was hoping tht on the mac id be able to take it to the next level.
they say a bad musician blames their instruments but you cant be a bad muscician when your instruments full with glithces
Unwanted garbage taking up computer space (10.1.1)
1/5 By Cjxdnsncjsns
I suspect this won’t be accepted and posted, but this and other unremovable apps are not a true customer service delivery. Unwanted, unused and unneccessarily taking up space
Could be terrific (10.1.1)
1/5 By tonyrware
I upgraded to this paid version and was very disappointed, keep getting error “Disk is too slow or system overload”
Had it worked I would have given 5 stars. No one seems to be able to solve this problem, poor effort.
Very Impressed (10.1)
5/5 By issieid
As someone new to OS X, GarageBand seems like a different beat in comparison to the IOS version. I am really impressed. Combined this app with Mainstage and you have GB worth of sounds to play with. I am using logic remote as well. (Maybe I’m still in the honeymoon phrase :-) as this is my first week on OSX.
Amazing for tons of things (10.1)
5/5 By Very very perfect!
I think that Garageband is pretty amazing. Everyone in my Music class at school when the teacher sets us tasks i’m doing the complete opposite of things but i get higher grades and everybosy is gobsmacked. I use it a lot for my custome made animations and upcoming video games that i’m making. It gives me the inspirational mind of a dog ya know and just listening to other pieces of score tracks on YouTube. I’m just inspired to go off and make something that i think people would enjoy. SO i’d recommend this for things like what i’ve mentioned but it can be hard sometimes finding your way round and finding the right instrument you want. I’ve got GarageBand on my iPhone 5s. I use it nearly everyday and i play and make a lot more things a little better than i can on mac because i don’t have a midi keyboard so i have to use the keyboard for a lot of it.
A great idea … but like my melodies, a little clunky! (10.1)
1/5 By iuenbdoahklwlher
This is a great idea but a liitle frustrating especially when you've added a couple of notes and whatever you try, just refuse to play.
Garageband is great but is now messed up with Mainstage 3 update. (10.1)
5/5 By The-Unknown-Stuntman
I echo the issues mentioned by EdwardRedfern regarding this Alchemy error which I also have. I purchased Mainstage 3 thinking that it would expand my music options, but now Garageband is broken as a result.
This has been reported by many users for at least 6 months now and there seems to be no response from Apple. Surely it is not good practice to ignore your customers when they bring forward an issue they are facing.
PLEASE APPLE, RESPOND TO YOUR CUSTOMERS!!
Even if Apple just uploaded a post saying “We hear you and we are working on it” it would be something, but all you get is silence. Don’t forget, your customers make you one of the most successful companies in the world. Don’t ignore them.
I appreciate that Apple may be working to update Garageband as a whole entity as they have done already with Mainstage and Logic Pro. Can’t you guys just release a small update to fix this issue.
DO NOT INSTALL THIS VERSION IF RUNNING LOGIC PRO X (10.1)
1/5 By EdwardRedfern
To any users suffering the issue where the Alchemy synth reports the following” “Alchemy… The preset you are attempting to load was created with a newer version of Alchemy than you have installed, so it cannot be loaded.” This is the root problem. Because apple has failed to update garage band in several months, bearing in mind Logic Pro X has had a recent update, If garageband is found on your system or you install in tandem with logic Pro x, Alchemy shows corrupt presets. Apple must fix this as this is an embarrassing issue. The only way to fix this issue is to use Logic Pro X only with it’s OWN CONTENT. yes, do download all the packs, legacy instruments, etc they’re not the problem. the problem is with Garageband’s instruments and damaging the instrument library for both garageband and Logic Pro X. So, you either use garageband and stick to it, or purchase logic pro X which is worth the money, wipe your system and rebuild, install logic pro X and stick with that.
Repeated error - Disk too slow or system overload (10.1)
1/5 By Alv yeti
This issue is becoming really tiresome. I’m just playing back one MP3 track only! and playing along with my guitar when this error message comes up repeatedly each time I use garageband! I can find no indication of what is causing the problem and using the apple help info or any other info. My main Hard Disk is a super fast 1TB SSD. Running on mac Mini Late 2012, 2.3 GHz intel Core i7., MEM = 16GB, OS X El-Capitan 10.11.3 (15D21)
Vocals are much harder to manipulate than a few years ago (10.1)
1/5 By t0m361
Awful layout, more confusing, vocals harder to edit, i was a master of the previous version, but this one seems like a DOWNGRADE.
Such a great app… Not Logic Pro But also not £150……. (10.1)
5/5 By mcwstanton
This really is a great app. Its runs like a dream no install issues what so ever downloaded and installed without a problem then did the same for the extra content. So for the money its great value I have Logic as well which I use for heavier stuff but if I want to fiddle round with track idea or have a jam and create nice little tracks Garage band is awesome!! you just have to remember how much you paid for it and not expect itto rival Logic or Pro-tools….. also there is a control surface app available for the Ipad which is quite cool to play with…
sort it out apple (10.1)
1/5 By LenaNiamh
its been so called downloading for the past three hours and it finally went back to the normal screen and asked me to download it again as if i never did to begin with, it won’t open, i cant do anything…. needs sorting out, cant work like this
This update hes just ruined EVERYTHING!!!! (10.1)
1/5 By I triumph
DO NOT UPDATE
This update has brocken Garageband on my mac and I will never be able to open any of my prodjects again. I had projects I had spent months on and now they have all gone. The update was automatic so I didn’t even authorise it. This has hurt me very much, I’m only like 12
Crashed and deleted (10.1)
1/5 By Tipsycat
Downloaded but kept crashing my new Mac, so deleted it. Can I have a refund?
Stop complaining! This is amazing (10.1)
5/5 By Gamerpete
As someone who has spent several thousands buying synths, reel to reel tape machines, outboard FX and samplers, you really dont know how lucky you are to be able to buy an app as capable as this for just a few quid.
It wasn’t broke... (10.1)
1/5 By DJLIL'JO
If it’s not broke don’t fix it!!
Don’t download this thinking it is an update and upgrade. It is the opposite. Stick with the previous version which has much more functionality.
Shame on you apple… change it back please!!
Having Problems (10.1)
2/5 By Lamecodename
So I tried to cut a song up, and I horizontal zoomed till I could see the really small waves of sound, I tried to cut the big block of song into 2, and I got the beachball then the message: "Disk is too slow or system overload”
Since this message appeared, every time I click play to try to listen to things in garageband it just says “Disk is too slow or system overload” yet the song works fine in itunes and even in the side window when you select the song to import into garageband (the button media browser)… I didn’t pay much, £4, just to update my old garageband (because there was no free way of updating it) and now this...
For the price - fantastic. (10.1)
4/5 By 5ILVER5URFER
How people vcan get annoyed or frustrated by a £3.99 music production suite is franlkly beyond me. I have been in the music scene for 30 years and would have killed for this app as a young aspiring musician. If you want pro-software get Logic, if you want a bit of creative fun, get Garageband.
Garageband has been iMovie-d (10.1)
1/5 By Ynda
What on earth is Apple doing to the iLife suite! This is RUBBISH, RUBBISH, RUBBISH. The old garageband had its minor quirks but boy what a useful app. The new Garageband is just one major Quirk! A nightmare to use, full of glossy, useless images of musical instruments but it doesn’t do anything that you expect it to do and just tells you its “overloaded”. Functions that you took for granted in the old garageband have disappeared and replaced with a shiny new but useless replica. Why do they do this? Why! Why Why!!!?
It’s harder to delete than a virus JUST GET LOGIC OR ABLETON (10.1)
1/5 By IAMGOODDAMNANNOYED
OK, I am super-annoyed because after deciding that garageband wasn’t a useful app I deleted it but its files still lurked in my 120GB mac :(. After searching my system, using deletion apps I managed to remove alot of files (oh and your never sure if you’re deleting something important). I am thinking about wiping my mac and I’m still not sure if it has audio files installed. There is still a file I can’t delete because it is “In use”.
As for the actual app, it is worse than V 6.05 because you can’t change the base sound generator. You can’t make your own synth. Unless you are really creative the app isn’t very fun or useful. JUST BUY SOMETHING DO NOT INSTALL THIS OR OPEN IT IF IT’S PRE INSTALLED. With your Apple potato in hand, you will be annoyed and you will want to shoot every apple worker (who isn’t a slave) and wipe your computer.
Awful - such a shame (10.1)
1/5 By Ed Seyfried of that ilk
THis is such a shame - DON’T WHATEVER YOU DO DOWNLOAD THE NEW GARAGEBAND!! I did a course on the old Garageband at CityLit in London - really mastered it, but they’ve changed everything and weakened the whole platform. I spent £100s on Jam pack but now you can buy the whole lot for a few quid - but guess what, they won’t upload and everytime you open GB it will ask you if you want to download 61GB of stuff which it then won’t mount. APPL FFS - sort it out - otherwise I’m all don with iMacs, iPhones and the like
atrocious piano (10.1)
1/5 By DanielW2511
Awful piano - no sustain, just a bad reverb.
