Download from the Amazon website instead (1.12.4)
19/04/2017 03:38:55 3/5 By deejacker
I was dissapointed to see that the MAS version hadn’t been updated for quite some time, so I popped across to the Amazon website and found that you can download a more recent version directly from there (at the time or writing this review v1.20).

Kindle for `Mac - forget it (1.12.4)
03/04/2017 02:03:24 1/5 By Christopher Mercer
Having used Kindle on all my electronic devices in all formats, this version for Mac is by far the worst, most inadequately supported, non-functional and crash happy version ever created. Amazon you should be ashamed of yourselves offering this app. It may be free but the books we buy are not.

Needlessly hard to use (1.12.4)
16/03/2017 08:19:31 2/5 By 0x_deadbeef
I like the *mobile* Kindle app; in fact, I prefer it to iBooks. But this desktop app needs some serious TLC. There are 2 main problems . First, if using a Magic Mouse, any slight movement of your finger on the top touch surface of the mouse will send the pages turning randomly away from where you currently are. I have resorted to keeping the mouse cursor out of the app window and only using keys to turn pages. Second, the UI is totally confusing. There are some random icons along the top toolbar, and then some more random icons down the left-hand side. Some are obvious lke bookmark and font size; others are totally cryptic. What’s more, the toolbar is not exactly crammed full of buttons, so Amazon could have used the space better to make more self-explanatory buttons/icons. For instance, to get to the furthest page you’ve read in the book (quite a common requirement I reckon), you press icon icon that looks like, and is called, “Refresh”. I am an app developer and that makes no sense to me. What’s more, setting a bookmark is extremely easy, but navigating to one is buried under some obscure icons - and there isn’t even a way to do it via the menus! In summary, I only use this version if I’ve left my iPad at home.

Not updated & not modern (1.12.4)
12/03/2017 09:25:02 2/5 By FuZion
There’s no denying this is old & feels almost neglected. Even flipping through pages feels antiquated against other book readers. It’s hard to describe in words, but as others have mentioned, the iPad app is fantastic whilst this feels like a poor mans version.

barely works (1.12.4)
13/01/2017 20:44:57 2/5 By Davenport26794
grateful for amazon developing the app for the OS X platform but boy! Is this ever a stinker. The 90’s called… they want your navigation back.

Almost unusable! (1.12.4)
13/01/2017 05:54:57 1/5 By Claudio dos Santos
It’s impossible to turn pages using the trackpad on my book pro. When fliping the pages, kindle will flip 2 or more at the time. I need to use the keyboard arrows to move pages. Please Amazon fix this or I will start to look for e-books some place else!

Severly lacking (1.12.4)
10/01/2017 02:45:59 1/5 By makasete
No ability to copy and paste as you can you on the iPad and iphone kindle apps. Amazon seems unbothered, and merely makes sure it runs with the latest Mac OS updates. Perhaps because most people use the app on their their iphones and iPad instead, but I would argue that if they improved this app, more people would use it. As well as copy and paste, when using the mouse or track pad, it frequently skips a few pages ahead when I am sliding the cursor around the page. This does not happen in the ibooks app, so it is clearly not normal and something that should be fixed. There is no audio books whispersync ability, like the IOS app has. It still does not sync any of the collections you may have on the IOS version. This lack of ability has forced me to use Calibre to remove the DRM and turn it into a PDF or ibooks version(which is pretty easy to do, and quick), just so I can open the book up in another app and copy and paste(for academic quotes). I would not have bothered doing that if the kindle app had been been updated to match the IOS version. I would advise others to do the same for a better reading experience, so that Amazon realises they are losing business and sorts this out. Lastly, the kindle app from the amazon site fixes some of these issues and has a nicer interface, so if you want to use the kindle app, use that one(which is clearly their intention). You can also copy and send your notes from in the app, which is nice, but the publisher will put a 10% limit of the book on the amount you send, so I guess I will keep using Calibre to convert it to a pdf!

More work needed (1.12.4)
04/01/2017 06:28:00 1/5 By Tin tank
App is an absolute disaster. it keeps crashing and closing down. Haven’t been able to to read a single line. its useless and not up to the minimum standards expected of an App within the Apple world.

Pants! (1.12.4)
24/12/2016 09:34:00 1/5 By oscarppp
This app is rubbish. Amazon have specifically designed it to maximise sales through the kindle store. Download Calibre (free app) instead. so much easier to convert eBook files to MOBI format and drag and drop to multiple devices.

Resolution? (1.12.4)
08/12/2016 15:38:00 1/5 By physics345
Why, in 2016 (almost 2017) does the Kindle app for the Macbook still have such a low resolution? Seems like this app is not maintained.

It should be better. (1.12.4)
30/09/2016 09:23:00 3/5 By ellianejiva
I love the Kindle app on my iphone and always use it to read ebooks. But Kindle for Mac need to be improved.

Not up-to-date (1.12.4)
31/07/2016 13:49:00 2/5 By Go Hod
This version is far behind what is available by dowloading it diectly form Amazon. Not sure why they’ve allowed it to go out-of-date?

Not as good as iPad version (1.12.4)
07/07/2016 18:18:00 3/5 By Techguy1357
I’ve still got the scrolling issue that makes you jump about 20 pages every time you bring the mouse near the app. But now the text selection for highlighting has become inaccurate. Don’t get me wrong, try out the new iPad app and you’ll be amazed - the new page flip is speed reading heaven! Maybe amazon could get the iPad developers to work on OS X…...

Okay (1.12.4)
16/06/2016 22:54:00 3/5 By Outlawcatcher
I love using my kindle on my phone and mini iPad. I love the way my books sync quite seamlessly and that you can arrange them into collections. The fact that you cannot do this on the mac app is utterly frustrating and you would think it would be a simple matter to do this…OR maybe it’s not?? Anyway the fact that I cannot arrange my books into collections or that the app is not able to arrange and view them in categories or type with associated headings puts me off using the app altogether. With this said I cannot then review how user friendly it is really as the user has been put off using the app in the first place…such a shame!

Could do (a lot) better! (1.12.4)
10/05/2016 12:20:00 3/5 By PadiPaws
This Mac version is a pale imitation of the iPad version, unfortunately. When syncing it suggests the date of last use elsewhere in American format, which is confusing for us UK users, and it does not seem to report the location very often, so when you go onto the other device it does not know where you actually were up to. There is no indication of time left in chapter (a feature which is tremendously useful). Perhaps these features do exist but I can't find where to implement them. It does seem to operate without crashing (so far).
Also one does not seem to have the ability to adjust line spacing, or to select the primary dictionary for word look-up.

Works o.k. on Mavericks (1.12.4)
29/03/2016 15:00:00 3/5 By Kashkei
I moved to Yosemite, then El Capitan, and after a few weeks with El Cap, reinstalled Mavericks (OS 10.9.5). This Reader works fine on that, no loading or display problems. What I’d really like is a Kindle Reader for Linux...

Crashes constantly (1.12.4)
25/03/2016 10:05:00 1/5 By Woody1rtw
From Amazon I expect a lot better constant crashing on IMAC

Rubbish (1.12.4)
23/03/2016 23:23:00 1/5 By met497
Half my books are missing! All my imported Collections are empty apart from one book which appears in nearly all of them. Utter rubbish.

Love it! Works great. (1.12.4)
10/03/2016 17:26:00 5/5 By ZarkingFardwarks
Thanks for this wonderful app. It works as intended on my shiny new  Mac Mini, in El Capitan. It’s great to have a read of my fave books while chopping away at vegetables, preparing dinner. Cheers!

Old Version (1.12.4)
03/03/2016 14:39:00 2/5 By podgib
This is an ancient version of the app. Download it directly from the Amazon website - much better

Crashes on launch (1.12.4)
28/02/2016 21:09:00 1/5 By g8bhc
Won’t open on iMac (21.5-inch, Late 2013). OSX10.11.3.

Will not sync (1.12.4)
14/02/2016 19:28:00 1/5 By wewhoserve
Do not buy any Kindle books from Amazon. For the past few weeks my Kindle App will not snc with books that I have puchased from Amazon. Amazon don’t appear interested once they have you money. They give me the impression that they don’t believe me. Well my tried and trusted KOBO works just fine, so goodbye AmaCON.

Won’t even install! (1.12.4)
11/02/2016 12:29:00 1/5 By Graham Lovis
Utterly useless as it won’t even install

Dreadful (1.12.4)
05/02/2016 23:02:00 1/5 By Sir Harry the Horse
This is an awful App - Poor functionality and some books just don’t display properly.

Scrolling needs sorting. It’s infuriating!! (1.12.4)
12/01/2016 14:50:00 2/5 By Techguy1357
I’ve always been a fan of the Kindle app and have it on numerous (5) devices. Everything used to work ok, but the developers seem to have broken the scrolling on the Mac. I’m constantly scrolling 20+ pages at a time after moving the mouse onto another window. This happens even when you don’t use the scrolling gesture!!! Please sort it out Amazon!!

Doesn’t work. (1.12.4)
03/01/2016 23:30:00 1/5 By Farrah Moore
It won’t even load and open on macbook yosemite. completely useless.

Poor Functionality (1.12.4)
02/01/2016 09:14:00 2/5 By Realitysoft
I use Kindle on Ipad and iphone but on the MacBook it is pretty annoying, I cannot zoom easily and constantly jumping on pages - no more smooth scroll or am I missing somehting here? If it had that I would rate much higher and even with configuration of my MX mouse, which BTW, is superior for this type of scrolling and zoom options. This has been a while since I used a MacBook version and it’s very annoying. I will not purchase Kindle only based books in future.

Cannot copy text (1.12.4)
13/12/2015 20:27:00 2/5 By DJ21212121
I use my kindles extensively. I use it on my Phone, Mac book , Windows PC and White Paper. The majority of books I read are NON Fiction and as study material I need to take notes. I can now no longer copy portions of text to my personnel notes anymore as Amazon have removed the feature!!!! I am extremely disappointed as its a great tool for my education.

Does the basics (1.12.4)
28/11/2015 22:56:00 3/5 By purplelewiz
I'd like to see an option to increase line spacing as well as change font.
