Comments and Ratings for Rome: Total War - Gold Edition
210BC - Crashes on both Mac & iPad (1.4.3)
1/5 By Very-Jaay
So sad to have a once great game crumble, since the latest update things were fine. Now (at 210BC btw) the game crashes at the end of the turn.
Lets hope another update is released soon which fixes whatever got broke in the last one.
Latest fixes seem to have solved crashes (1.4.3)
4/5 By Sparrowhawk
I previously gave this just 2* as although a superb game when it ran, it crashed so often as to make it unplayable.
Since 1.4.3, these crashes have mostly gone away for me (just one so far) - fingers crossed it stays like this.
Note: this is based on the game running on El Capitan. MBP2015 15" with Intel Iris graphics.
Am I the only one?? (1.4.2)
4/5 By sarah barker
Awesome game but my mac trackpad won’t match up with the game in the battle scenarios, help!:/
WARNING DO NOT BUY AS NOT WORKING ON LATEST OSX (1.4.2)
1/5 By ImpressiveElegance
WARNING - DO NOT BUY AS MAY NOT WORK
After being able to play this game, it now no longer starts, and Apple bless their little cotton socks have told me that it’s no longer of any concern to them whether it works or not, despite the fact they’re still selling it on their store.
Lesson learned. I’ll buy my games at a cheaper price from one of the online stores which offer the same ability as Apple to redownload whenever I want.
CONSTANTLY CRASHES (1.4.2)
1/5 By ccccchris
Do not buy this game! As others have said, it crashes constantly. (MacBook Pro Retina 2013)
2/5 By Squidgytommy
I love the game. As Total War games go, its probably my favourite. But this version is absolutely terrible for bugs. You don’t seem to be able to guy more than several turns without the thing crashing. It gets to the point where you are trying to find your way around the crashes. Disappointing
Great game but crashes endlessly (1.4.2)
2/5 By Sparrowhawk
Come on Feral, you are still selling this, show a little love and patch the constant crashes. I’ve had 4 today in the space of 2 hours. It doesn’t even restore to the QuickSave point if you do manage to CMD+S save in between battles so I had to fight the same battle three times only for it to crash on the next battle. Cut scenes in battltes are particularly bad - and especially against the britons in cities. No idea why that might be.
Crashes are not limited to battles, the computer players’ turns when it moves the figures around the map also sometimes triggers it.
Other than the crashes, this is absolutely still a 5* game and with a stability patch, I’d update my rating accordingly. Others may be luckier and it may not crash for them, but I’ve spoken online to plenty of people who suffer from this to know it’s not just me.
I have to be honest that it’s put me off buying Medieval 2 as a result in case that also suffers from the same instabilities.
Running on El Capitan, all latest latest OS updates applied. 2010 2.53 MBP with dedicated 256MB of VRAM in gfx card. Old machine but runs smoothly. I also have it installed on a newer (but still oldish) iMac with 10.9.5, and it crashes on that too.
Fantastic Game (1.4.2)
4/5 By Kakfjwjwkkskd
This is one of the most playable games I know of. I have spend multiple hours capturing cities, controlling the growth of settlemtns and training troops all on the campaign game. It has been incredibly fun. You also have the custom battles, which are great should you want to test your military genuis against hoards of Gauls or just to crush hundreds of peasants with armoured elephants amoungst the carthaginian desert. With about fifteen factions to choose from, this game doesnt really get stale.
However, I have found that the campaign does occaisionally crash, every time I capture this one city it shuts down, and the game can sometimes be a little laggy.
Fantastic games, would definately recommend
Best Game EVER (1.4.2)
5/5 By Simon Mitchell
This game is amazing. Thanks to Feral it runs fantastically. The golden era of Total War.
Brilliant.Just. Brilliant. (1.4.2)
5/5 By ParaDude99
I left a review a while back giving this one star as it crashed all the time. Now it doesn’t. Keeps me occupied for hours. Finish the campaign and then you can unlock all the other factions. Never, ever, gets boring!
Hopefully Napoleon will get fixed too!
Great game (1.4.2)
4/5 By 200 hours on Rome 1
I really enjoy this game its fun, the AI is a challenge and it actually forces me to use diplomacy and espionage.
The only issue that I have is that the game sometimes crashes and everytime I hit a chariot with a flaming missile the game will freeze for about a minute and then crash. Please fix this
Anyway its great fun and a really enjoyable game
5 stars if it werent for the bugs
umm wont download at all (1.4.2)
1/5 By Adam Cardinal
just keeps saying error…..
Just does not download (1.4.2)
1/5 By ChrisFly1111
Was a great game on the PC all those year ago, but this verison just simply does not download onto Mac El capitan. annoying
Good game but does no work (1.4.2)
1/5 By DabbMac
The game itself is excellent and I had previously played it on the PC many years ago. I did manage to play it briefly on the Mac after downloading but it crashed. I reinstalled it but it simply does not load. I sent in various crash reports, raised the matter via the app store, but no one has contacted me or seems to be in the least bit interested. Money down the drain. DO NOT PURCHASE THIS GAME.
1 star (1.4.2)
1/5 By Happy pish
Would be great if multiplayer wasn’t disabled...
Okay, but some AI issues (1.4.2)
3/5 By Wolvesbane101
I have been playing this for ages and it’s a great game.
There seems to be a bit of a bug with the AI countries as anybody I ally will attack me within two turns, and anybody I attack will ask for an alliance. Also you can still claim victory on the short campaign when it tells you that another faction is about to win. Never ever got to fight rome, you should be able to attack it a LOT earlier in the game.
Quite good for strategy though.
Do not buy this!!!! (1.4.2)
1/5 By Brutha999
It does not install: simply loads a dialog box saying “Installing…. Please Wait” as previous users have found. There is no support available at weekends, absolutely shocking given the amount they are charging. I can only think this is a con of some sort.
Total immersion (1.4.2)
5/5 By flying coffin
A game I originally played on PC for many years before moving to a Mac and deciding to purchase it again as it is that good.
Like a game of chess when you play on the harder levels it requires risk assessment, luck, bravery and forward planning, if that fails then get your diplomats and assasins upto speed because you are going to need them.
Also playing Empire Total War on Steam, another cracking strategy based game.
the hell is this? (1.4.2)
1/5 By Jonny_93
They’ve only gone and right ballsed it up with this latest update. it seems that the morality police have stormed that tin pot organisation known as sega and disabled the cheat button. What the hell sega, what do you expect me to do when pontis are knocking on the door? You’ve stolen all my bribe money. Inexcusable
4/5 By Womp-Rat
Game is a huge milestone for Feral Interactive, considering when it came out, it is an absolute masterpiece, crashes very rarely, even with high detail. Campaign is satisfying and immersive, units act and look suprisingly realistic, i would recommend to any new player looking for a start at Total War, DLC could be improved, aside from everything else, there are still a few bugs with flaming arrows fired on large units which results usually in a crash but really nothing else too drastic. Why cant Rome 2 take a leaf out of this game’s book!
2/5 By _c_m_
I bought this game a few years ago and a few hours in to the game it kept crashing and would not let me progress, deleted it off my iMac and downloaded it again about a year later, same issue happening again - great game pity I cannot play it
The same excellent now game for mac (1.4.2)
4/5 By Manwe.Sulimo
I give this 4 stars only because I can’t quite believe how expensive it is. I needed it so I paid and wasn’t disappointed as it feels exactly the same as on windows. On windows £5, on mac £19 of course but that’s my only criticism.
this is terrible software (1.4.2)
1/5 By Golconda2012
I am outraged I spend all this money for something that crashes regurarly. I played everyday for the last two weeks and I got crashes everyday. And not one per day, 5-6 consecutive crashes, mostly at the end of a battle. This is terrible and requires and urgent bug fixing.
Amazing game but there some problems (1.4.2)
5/5 By CoolToLife
great game fun to play with realistic battles
i would reccomend this game to anyone i know but the graphics are o.k. and there are no sea battles, apart from simulated ones that tell you if you won of not
5/5 By ajsilver2
For you people who are wondering if you should spend the money on this game, get it! it provides endless entertaiment, and also is great for multyplayer. The graphics are resonably good, and action sequences never get old. i would definaly recomend this game. However bring out more dlc’s the alexander one was sick and more the better!
Dont install the latest update!!!! (1.3)
1/5 By Richard van den Broek
So I downloaded the latest update and installed it, but now I cant play the game. Every time I open the application it just has a little box saying 'instaling please wait’ well it has been installing for the past 3 days and still hasnt got anywhere….. dont install
DO NOT INSTALL UPDATE UNTIL YOU READ THIS! (1.4.2)
1/5 By Tony Burgess
If you have any mods (e.g. Rome Total Realism), DO NOT INSTALL until you have stored all the mods elsewhere (including saved games), because otherwise you’ll lose the lot. Very very unhappy.
Application non-functional after 1.4.1 update (1.3)
2/5 By Contrant
Similar to the previous review (Matt, 01 March), having updated to 1.4.1 my game is non-functional in exactly the same way.
The application will not open, with the icon bouncing as described, and there is no way to force quit the app or report the problem.
Almost two weeks after updating, it’s a shame that this hasn’t been fixed yet (no doubt exacerbated by reporting the error normally not being possible). I hope it is sorted soon so that I can once again use the application.
Game doesnt run after 1.4.1 update (1.4)
3/5 By Matt from Bolton
I’ve just updated to 1.4.1 via the App Store; since updating the game has been non functional.
Upon opening the application the icon simply ‘bounces’ in the tray, before slowing the whole system down and then ‘beachballing’ and the program drops into a Not Responding state, to the extent that I’m also unable to Force Quit the application. I’m then forced to do a hard reset.
As a result I cant get a ‘Support Report’ as i’m unable to get into the pre-game menu.
Prior versions have worked perfectly so I hope the Dev’s can fix it :-)
Simple Brillaint !! (1.3)
5/5 By thompson121
Well even tho the game is over ten years old it does not get boring! Graphically the game does look dated, espically in battle but on the main campaign the game look stunning even after these long years. Rome Total war is proablly the best stragergy game of all time, its simple yet complecated, easy and hard, indepth and shallow, simple put, not matter the player and how he/she likes to play it will suit all.
Anyone who played this on Pc will not only love it on Mac, but its simpky far better then its orginal release.
A Timeless game !!
