Comments and Ratings for Sparkle, Visual Web Design

Stick with it (2.1.4)
13/05/2017 16:09:57 5/5 By BazzaMac54
I downloaded Sparkle just to find out what it would do. It was fairly easy to start putting a few pages together and link them with each other. Other features built in were incorporated, like FaceBook logo and URL, email forms etc. However, when I tried to publish it failed to link to the server and kept giving error messages like 'the server cannot be found' and ‘the xxxxx.co.uk is not published to this address’. I checked the DNS settings IP addresses and everything was correct. It took me a long time to work out what the problem was - and it turned out that the issue was server side. Once set up, publishing was easy. It would have been handy in the Sparkle documentation if they had a troubleshooting section that explained the likely reasons for issues that are indicated within their software. However, once sorted the application just keeps giving and giving. I use Dreamweaver, and yes you can fine tune the html code and create fast loading slickly put together sites, but Sparkle is so good at allowing you to work on layout and putting together very slick pages with most of the features you are likely to want. The real payback is the speed with which you can put together a site and tweak the layout for smart phones and tablets before publishing. As the developers continue to improve the package it will just get better and better. If you are designing a website for a club or society and want something that is intuitive and simple to use, and you want good results then this is the package for you. If you, as I did, try the free version - stick with it and don’t just dismiss it because you come across a problem. Read the documentation in the help files and attack the learning curve, which is not too steep compared to biggies like Dreamweaver. You will be rewarded. I upgraded to Sparkle 1 once I realised its power and potential, and I don’t regret it.

It took me a while - but now this is great (2.1.4)

When I started using Sparkle I was disappointed. I couln’t get it to do what I wanted and gave up in frustration. However, when I tried again, hainv tried several other web developing programmes, I realised how good it is. I got it to do just what I wanted - it is slick and I suspect I could do much more with it than I have so far. Tweaking my website, and developing newer versions of it has become fun. Uploading is extremely simple - once I had put in the ftp info I just have to click on ‘publish’ and my new pages are updated instantly. I have now deleted the other programmes I tried and am using Sparkle to try new things and play around - it is a serious web developer but also very enjoyable to use.

Since update 2.1.3 (2.1.3)
10/03/2017 15:07:56 2/5 By Craig__C
Since Sparkle has changed to issue 2.1.3 I have had nothing but trouble, I originally created my companies website using a version older then 2.1.3, as as Sparkle forced me to update my software I have foud out that some of the features I used in my original design are now no-longer valid in the new update. For example the number of pages I can have in a display list has fallen from 6 to 4. This has resulted in my redesigning my website from scratch which is taking a lot of money, time and man power my business cannot afford to spend. Other issues are constant crashing, items becoming unselectable, not being able to move mages out of a sub group. The 1st version of this software was excellent, really simple to use and gave good results, since the lastest updates it has become really unreliable, very problematic and it wouldn’t be a product I can recommend to anyone else. Sparkle automatically sends error report when it crashes so I am hoping that these are received by Sparkle and fixes are issued quickly,

The App I Have Been Waiting For. (2.1.3)
10/03/2017 03:34:38 5/5 By Loughtonian
I have tried other apps (which will be nameless), from so-called WYSIWYG HTML apps, to web creating apps which - like Sparkle - only create HTML files when exporting. None has been as easy to use and as creative as Sparkle. Much praise has already been given by previous reviewers so I will be succinct. Sparkle works well on my computer without crashing, so don’t worry about earlier reviews about its instability. Like me you may want to watch Sparkle YouTube tutorials or buy the course from TheMacU which, for me, made buying Sparkle a no-brainer. Sparkle has nearly twenty videos on YouTube under its channel River Design. Do try Sparkle. You won’t be disappointed.

A PRO WEB DESIGN APP MADE EASY (2.1.2)
06/03/2017 18:41:47 5/5 By axemc
I come from a very long web design background - all the way from Macromedia Dreamweaver to Adobe Muse CC. I’ve been using Adobe Muse CC since the first beta until now.. until I discovered this fantastic Mac app. I’ve been longing to get away from Adobe’s horrendous subscription model that’s both expensive and seriously buggy - why pay a premium for something that has poor performance issues? I’ve made many websites over the last few decades and have a lot of experience. To my surprise, I have finally found an Adobe Muse beater - Sparkle Pro! At first I tried out the free version, then quickly upgraded to Pro without any regrets. I’m so happy that I’m finally free from the wicked clasps of Adobe… FREEDOM!!! Don’t let the low cost and simplicity of this App fool you - this is a professional product made for Industry Web Designers with a premium feel and an intuitively designed interface letting you focus on what’s important - design and creativity. You can make some serious websites with alot of flexibility. The interface is very similar to Apple Pages and is really easy to master. I didn’t even need tutorials! When an App is this intuitive, it’s surely a no brainer must buy. My main problem with Adobe Muse was the issues with mobile phone and desktop synchronicity across devices. Sparkle solves this and goes even further for me - it has everything I want and more. To master an app without tutorials or training really says something about the design interface.. well done Sparkle team!! In future updates, I would like a dark interface option and look forward to a plugins community / marketplace - that would be excellent. Buy it and don’t hesitate - this is the perfect companion for Pixelmator, Affinity Design and Affinity Photo. Fit for any design studio.

Good WSYIWIG web build software (2.0.6)
27/12/2016 09:01:00 4/5 By Filintsone
Easy on the eye workspace, simplistic lay out over powerful design drag and drop software, good ftp smart upload so you dont have to wait for thr ful site to re-upload, also a good preview button to see how well your work looks, having speny many hours on the pc with various pieces of software to complile sites i struggled to find a half decent Mac alternative; well this is it for hobbyists or pros

Sparkle is so easy! (2.0.5)
25/09/2016 13:57:00 5/5 By Walker uk
I needed to refresh my web pages but had put it off for lack of a suitable Mac HTML interface. I downloaded Sparkle and within 24 hours I had totally revamped the site. It was so easy to use, just like Pages, and the site structure linking automaticlly to menu structuring is effortless. I was concerned about ftp but the ftp engine built into Sparkle took all the headache out of upolading! For the non-expert web designer this application is nothing short of brilliant!

A great WYSIWUG web site developers program for someone with minimal knowledge (2.0.5)
22/09/2016 17:24:00 5/5 By Mervpilot
I’ve been trying to get into Web page design for a while, and whilst happy making minimal changes to the code of an existing page in HTML, I’ve been overwhelmed by the complexity of some of the more industry standard software offerings. This simple and easy to use program has really clicked with me, and I’ve very quickly produced a whole web site and published and maintained it from within the software. I feel I’ve already started to reach the limits of the functionality, but further development is promised, and the developers have been swift to respond to questions, and accept items onto a wish list. You will of course need a Web site host, and you need to configure the connection from within Sparkle, but I found this straight forward using their wizard. Version 2 has just been upgraded to cope with the macOS Sierra, and I’m finding no glitches or bugs, a credit to the developers.

The BEST Web Design App for Mac! (2.0.3)
04/08/2016 10:48:00 5/5 By Supertecnoboff
Its a little bit expensive and the lack of rulers/guidelines (like in Xcode) and a few bugs with the box colours is annoying. Apart from that, this is a SUPERB web design application for the Mac. Its basically a reincarnation of Apple’s iWeb app, expect much more advanced and up to date. I am used to developing native software for platforms such as the Mac - thus I wanted something which could enable me to easily make a website, as I’m not as good when it comes to web development. This application fits the bill perfectly, laying out the site design, adding custom code frames, etc is very easy. My only request is that, I wish this app could have a built in code editor. Sometimes I want to modify the HTML/CSS/JS of a particular page - I can only do that in a sperate editor after I have exported the website package. When it comes to server side code (such as PHP), I just use a seperate editor/code file, so it doesn’t matter; but for basic design code like CSS, it would be nice to have a built in editor.

Easy to use Web Package (2.0.3)
29/06/2016 14:46:00 5/5 By antonypg
In the past I have used many web editor packages, including Dreamweaver and Flux, plus I have hand coded a lot of HTML, but I was looking for a package which let me create really nice looking web sites both easily and quickly. Sparkle is a great package that allows me to create a website by dropping elements anywhere I want on the page, dragging items around until I like the look of them, then adding formatting and effects. I can also create device specific pages for phones and tablets easily. No messing around with HTML is required, although you can add HTML objects if needed. The package works similar to a desktop publishing package, you can have items auto-repeat on pages such headers and footers, and items can be locked to the top or bottom of a page. Items available include slide shows, galleries, pull down menus and maps. So far appears to be very stable, I havent crashed it yet. On a number of occasions I have accidentally deleted pages, I find it quite easy to do (there is a delete symbol when you hover over a page thumbnail), but I have managed to retrieve them using Undo or Time Machine. The package is updated regularly and the developer is easy to contact with suggestions/help.
