Comments and Ratings for Star Wars®: Knights of the Old Republic™ II

Little more than a nostalgia trip (1.0.2)
11/07/2016 00:31:00 3/5 By SCamb0
When I play a game, I prefer quality to quantity. With sparsely-populated levels that take ages to navigate, and repetitive side plots which add little entertainment but a lot of time, KOTOR II prioritises the latter. Unlike the first game, which I played through several times, I haven’t felt compelled to go back and finish it. To be fair to it, I did enjoy the novelty of playing on new maps for the first hour or two; if all you want is more play-time, this will fit the bill. In summary - this is a good nostalgia trip for people who loved KOTOR, but a poor game in its own right.

Warning! Buy From Steam Instead! (1.0.2)

A fantastic game with a compelling story line and complex view of good and evil. By far one of my favourite games of all time with some of the most intricate characters. However, this game has been spoiled by it’s unreliability. I have uninstalled and reinstalled it many times for it to work but it get’s stuck at different parts. Save your money and buy the more reliable version from Steam.

Better Than the First (1.0.2)

KOTOR was, in many ways, the perfect Star Wars RPG. It was fun, it was high stakes and it was a clear-cut case of good vs. evil. KOTOR II exceeds this. KOTOR II sees you play as one of the sole remaining jedi in a galaxy that wants them to stay buried. Moral ambiguity is everywhere. Unlike the previos game, you’re not fighting to save the galaxy from evil, or to rule it with an iron first, you’re fighting for your own survival. The game starts off with you awakening on the mining world of Peragus II. The miners are dead and someone drugged you into a coma. This brilliant opening sequence sets the tone for the rest of the game: you’ve been away too long and things have become damaged in your absence. You quickly realise that someone is hunting you and you have no idea why. You’re going to need information if you’re going to turn the tables. With the game now on Mac you can experience the Restored Content Modification — a fan made project that restores cut content to the final game. The devlopment cycle of the game was cut short by Lucas Arts in order to get it out for a holiday release; consequently, lots of interesting content — including a whole planet — was cut. The only way you should play this game is with TSL:RCM installed. From the ambiguous Kreia to the psycopathic HK-47, this game has one of the most memorable casts in RPG history. It is, without a doubt, one of the best games ever made. 5/5

To much freezing makes the same almost unplayable (1.0.2)

I have a late 2015 iMac running El Capitan. I have stopped playing this for 2 reasons. The first is that it is almost exactly the same gave as the first game, even down to ‘waking up with no memory’. The second is the fame rate is terrible, in some situations I only seems to be getting a couple of frames per second. So I have stopped playing it.

HK-47; What is Love? (1.0.2)

Before you play KOTOR II, I most likely recommend playing KOTOR I just so you can have backstory and you won’t be confused by all the different names (Revan), or why Dantooine was destroyed for example. I played this game on 2012 MacPro Retina Display, with 256 SSD drive, 8GB RAM, 2.5ghz i5, and Intel Graphics 4000 1536mb memory card. The perfomance was really good in 90% of situations, however I did experience quite a lot of lag and freezing (no crashes) when grenades were being thrown at my characters, it was slightly irritating but nothing too major that caused the game to be unplayable. What else can I say, I’m an avid Star Wars fan so I absolutely loved the game and the choices result whether you will be a Jedi or Sith. The gameplay is fantastic, and the characters are enjoyable and fun to watch when they argue with each other :) The game gets 4/5 due to the fact that as mentioned earlier there was a bit of a lag, but again it isn’t anything serious.. 5/5 for gameplay so definetily buy it.

Great game, Doesn’t work. (1.0.1)

Having been really enjoying this (complex, dark take on the SW universe, great gameplay) I’m now gutted because, after 64 hours of gameplay, I’m trapped in a glitch. (For geeks in the know, a cutscene in Onderon Palace Throne Room - the showdown between Vaklu and Talia - is not triggering. All NPCs stood around like zombies, nothing to be done.) It seems that for all the fanfare, it’s still the same buggy game it was on PC release a decade ago. Sad times,

First time I played this game I had to put a CDin to run the game. Playing it broght me back to days, where I didint have to worry about earning my living, paying rent etc . . . The game Run smoothly with no crashes or Lag, I had good overall frames pre sec. I Play on Mid 2012 macbook pro, 16gb RAM 1gb Vram: attached to 1920x1200 res wide gamut monitor. I did not install the mod or log in the apple playstore.

Nostalgia updated (1.0.1)

Played this through once unmodded and now playing it through with the Sith Lords restored content mod. The mod makes the game even better than I remember and so far no odd crashes or other problems. Didn’t start playing with the mod until a couple of days ago, and so far so good. If you remember playing this in an earlier version it is well worth playing this version. Also loving the fact I can use an Xbox controller with the game.

Exactly how I remembered and loved it!!! (1.0.1)

This game is still as fantastic as when I played it as a kid ten years ago!! I’m so happy it’s been released on the Mac! TSLRCM mod makes it a lot better as I’ve only played with it once!

Better than the films, well worth the waiting for! (1.0.1)

I played this game originally on a really old mac running windows, with loads of bugs. As soon as I saw it on the app store I bought it and I’m really glad I did! This game needs to be played about 70 times through to appreciate the story, and the backstories of the Kreia/Atton/Canderous characters are really well done. The first game was great for action and a bit of meaningless violence but the way they tie up all the loose ends is amazing. I have no complaints, but I wish they let these guys write the new Star Wars film.
